using the app & your safety

The world is mostly full of sweet and awesome people. But there are some exceptions. So always remember to really consider the potential ramifications of meeting with someone you don’t know. Always think of the best but prepare for the worst. That’s also good advice for life in general.

You and Where You Live

While using type, other members that come across your profile will know your first name and see photos of you – but it’s a big old world and they can’t do much with that. So, don’t share your address or any other personal information until you feel absolutely sure that you want to – and even then really do think about it. Only share your Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat or other socials in your bio if you feel absolutely comfortable doing so. Sometimes a little mystery can go a long way.

Spammers, Scammers & Downright Losers

You may well be contacted by the man or woman of your dreams (or at least they look it) urging you to have a look at some link, send some money, give them your address, or any number of other red flag indicators. Don’t be foolish.

Instead, learn how best to avoid these things and recognise those red flag moments. Check out this useful UK government page on dating scammers here

Money Stuff

When the Crown Prince of Somewhere Super Exotic and Amazing says he’s in a bit of a pickle and just needs your account details to help him move £10 million into your bank for safe keeping, please ignore him. Likewise, any attempt – even from someone you feel a connection with – to send money or share your private account details with should be ignored.

Blocking and Reporting & Blocking

At the top right of every main profile in type you will see three little dots. Within this menu you have the option of blocking a user and reporting & blocking a user. Please do report anyone that violates our terms of use and do report anything that you feel is suspicious or that makes you uncomfortable. You may block people as you see fit. However, if you don’t report them as well, we’ll not think anything of it.

Finding Your Type and Meeting Them

The whole point of type is to find a potential partner (in crime) and ultimately move your relationship from a text based one to a personal one. That’s super exciting and we hope that you find true love and then delete the app forever. But when meeting someone for the first time, please do make sure that you feel totally comfortable in doing so. Wipe the rose tint from your glasses for just a second and really consider the implications of what you are about to do. Always meet in public and tell a friend or family member when & where you are going and who you are meeting. Give those close to you as much information about who you are meeting as possible before you leave.

Sexy Times

Let’s be real – sex is an amazing way of showing someone that you care about them. We hope that type users will find love through the app. We also hope that that love includes plenty of really good sex. But an important part of experiencing this aspect of love is making sure that you and your partner are clear of any sexually transmitted diseases. Don’t be afraid to ask the question and be honest and candid about your own sexual health; your relationship will be all the stronger for it.

Keeping the Dirty Act Clean

The world is mostly full of sweet and awesome people. But there are some exceptions. So always remember to really consider the potential ramifications of meeting with someone you don’t really know. Have a read of this to remind yourself what those exceptions can look like and what an innocent meeting could turn into. Always think the best but prepare for the worst. That’s also good advice for life in general.
